Calibration is the set of operations that establishes the relationship between the values indicated by a measuring instrument and the corresponding reference values under specified conditions.
কোনো measuring instrument যে মান দেখায়, তা নির্ভরযোগ্য reference standard-এর মানের সঙ্গে কতটা সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ, তা নির্দিষ্ট শর্তে নির্ধারণ করাকে Calibration বলে।
যেমন, একটি weighing balance দিয়ে ওজন মাপার আগে বা নির্ধারিত schedule অনুযায়ী certified weights ব্যবহার করে তার measurement performance যাচাই করা হতে পারে।
মনে রাখতে হবে: Calibration এবং Adjustment এক বিষয় নয়। Calibration-এর মাধ্যমে measurement performance মূল্যায়ন করা হয়; adjustment-এর মাধ্যমে instrument-এর performance পরিবর্তন করা হতে পারে।
