The therapeutic index is a measure of drug safety, commonly expressed in experimental pharmacology as the ratio of the median toxic dose to the median effective dose.
Therapeutic Index হলো ওষুধের safety margin বোঝার একটি পরিমাপ। Experimental pharmacology-তে এটি সাধারণত নিচের অনুপাত দিয়ে প্রকাশ করা হয়:
TI = TD₅₀ / ED₅₀
এখানে, TD₅₀ হলো যে dose পরীক্ষাধীন population-এর ৫০%-এ নির্দিষ্ট toxic effect সৃষ্টি করে এবং ED₅₀ হলো যে dose population-এর ৫০%-এ নির্দিষ্ট therapeutic effect সৃষ্টি করে। সাধারণভাবে বেশি TI তুলনামূলক বিস্তৃত safety margin নির্দেশ করতে পারে। তবে এর ব্যাখ্যা ব্যবহৃত endpoints ও clinical context-এর ওপর নির্ভরশীল।
